In My Mailbox (20)

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by The Story Siren where bloggers post about the books they have received in the past week whether for review, purchased, or checked out from the library. ^_^

Bought:

Dragonswood by Janet Lee Carey (B&N, how you save me with your coupons!)

From my Library:

Chocolat by Joanne Harris (for our Book Club!)

Plus the film with Juliette Binoche, Dame Judi Dench, and of course, Johnny Depp!

That's all for my mailbox today. What did you get in yours? I'd love to hear about it in the comments!

TGIF (6): Book to Movie

TGIF is a weekly feature created and hosted by GReads! that recaps the week's posts and has a different question each week.

This Friday's Question:

Book to Movie: Which book to movie do you feel did the best adaptation? What about the worst?

My Answer: Going with books that I've read and the films based on them that I have seen, I would have to say Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden is one of my favorite and well-done books into film. The story was condensed fairly well and the setting was absolutely beautiful and breath-taking. It is one film I could watch over and again and a book I could read over and again as well.

I can't really think of a bad book turned into film because usually I don't see those that look to be disappointing and cannot measure up to the book (at least in my own opinion).  While I could name several that looked as though they couldn't measure up to the story created by the author, I would rather not raise the ire of my readers.

What book to movie is your favorite? How about least favorite?

Book Blogger Hop Day: May 27-29

Book Blogger Hop
As Crazy For Books says:

Book Blogger Hop is a place just for book bloggers and readers to connect and share our love of the written word! This weekly BOOK PARTis an awesome opportunity for book bloggers to connect with other book lovers, make new friends, support each other, and generally just share our love of books!

This week's question is:

"What book-to-movie adaption have you most liked?  Which have you disliked?"

My Answer: This is a tough one, but if I have to choose, I'd say Memoirs of a Geisha is one of the best book-to-movie adaptations I've seen.  Even though the movie condensed the story, it kept enough of the novel to really show Sayuri's life in such a beautiful visual setting.  I was not at all happy with the movie adaptation of Blood and Chocolate.  It was as if the director threw out the original story and just kept the names of characters.  Even the setting was different, and it felt so very wrong I just couldn't get through the entire movie.  I would recommend that people either only read the book or watch the movie first then read the book.
