Book Blogger Hop Day: July 1-4

Book Blogger Hop is a place just for book bloggers and readers to connect and share our love of the written word! This weekly BOOK PARTis an awesome opportunity for book bloggers to connect with other book lovers, make new friends, support each other, and generally just share our love of books!

This week's question is:

What keeps you reading beyond the first few pages of a book, and what makes you want to stop reading a book and put it back on the shelf?

My Answer: The characters have to draw me into a book and make me curious about what's going on and what will happen later on down the storyline.  Without that curiosity-piquing element, I'm not as inclined to continue reading a book to the very last page.  If a book has a lot of grammatical errors (unless it's an ARC) like misspelled words and run-on sentences or fragments, I'm also more inclined to put it back on the shelf.  When I see too many spelling errors in a published book, it just interrupts the story flow, and I can't focus on just enjoying the story.  Sometimes even just reading the summary will be enough to make me zip through the pages of a book because of something mentioned there that (hopefully) isn't within the first few chapters. ^_^

  1. I agree, poor writing and/or typos turn me off right away!

  2. I love flying through a book just to find out what's going to happen! Thankfully I don't give up on books very often. I'm nosey, and have to see how they are going to end!

  3. I give up on a book a lot. Just the smallest thing can make me close the cover!

I'm hopping by to tell you that I've got a wonderful giveaway going on at my blog, Readerbuzz. It's international! During the Readerbuzz July Giveaway I'll be giving away a $25 Amazon gift card! I'd love to have you stop in and throw your name in the hat to win!

  4. Oh, I completely forgot about typos! Thankfully, that hasn't been too much of an issue as of late, but the last book I read had an issue where the author couldn't decide whether to name a location "Bedlam" or "Bethlem" hospital. He even used both names within 2 paragraphs of each other. Ugh, talk about annoying!

Hope you have a great weekend!

  5. Hopping through. There's really no excuse for tons of bad grammar in a published book. I blame the editor as much, if not more, than the author.

  8. I am your newest GFC follower. Following Book Blogger Hop. My answer:

I started reading a book the last month and it was suppose to be a very good book. But after giving it a couple of chapters I just couldn’t get into it. I put the book aside to read another day. I don’t like to do that because I feel as if my mind might have had too many distractions and I didn’t give the book a chance. So I always try to wait for another day to give it another go. I have so many other books calling to me from my to-be-read list that it can really be distracting. READ ME! READ ME!
I prefer reading and reviewing Christian Fiction but I do read a varity of other books. I just can’t handle too scary or gory. Suspense and Mysteries I like. No explicit adult books either if I do find one I really want to read I just skip over the x-rated stuff. So what genre do I read?
