Waiting on Wednesday: Awaken

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's "Waiting On" Wednesday selection is:

Awaken (Abandon #3)
Publish date: May 7th by Point

From Goodreads~
Death has her in his clutches.  She doesn't want him to let go.

Seventeen-year-old Pierce Oliviera knew by accepting the love of John Hayden, she'd be forced to live forever in the one place she's always dreaded most: the Underworld.  The sacrifice seemed worth it, though, because it meant she could be with the boy she loves.

But now her happiness—and safety—are threatened, all because the Furies have discovered that John has broken one of their strictest rules: He revived a human soul.

If the balance between life and death isn't fixed, both the Underworld and Pierce's home back on earth will be wiped away.  But there's only one way to restore order.  Someone has to die.

Why am I waiting on this one?  It's been an amazing ride with Pierce and John, and I aim to see it through to the end... *gulps* even if that end means someone's death.  I'll be sad to see the story end, but I MUST know what happens.  May can't get here soon enough!

Waiting on Wednesday: Everbound

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's "Waiting On" Wednesday selection is:

Everbound
By Brodi Ashton
Publish Date: January 22, 2013 by Balzer+Bray/HarperCollins

**Warning: Goodreads summary contains spoilers from the first book, Everneath, so please refrain from reading if you haven't read it yet!**

From Goodreads~
Nikki Beckett could only watch as her boyfriend, Jack, sacrificed himself to save her, taking her place in the Tunnels of the Everneath for eternity — a debt that should've been hers. She's living a borrowed life, and she doesn't know what to do with the guilt. And every night Jack appears in her dreams, lost and confused and wasting away.

Desperate for answers, Nikki turns to Cole, the immortal bad boy who wants to make her his queen — and the one person least likely to help. But his heart has been touched by everything about NIkki, and he agrees to assist her in the only way he can: by taking her to the Everneath himself.

Nikki and Cole descend into the Everneath, only to discover that their journey will be more difficult than they'd anticipated — and more deadly. But Nikki vows to stop at nothing to save Jack — even if it means making an incredible sacrifice of her own.

In this enthralling sequel to Everneath, Brodi Ashton tests the bonds of destiny and explores the lengths we'll go to for the ones we love.

Eep! I'm so ready to see what Nikki will have to do in order to return Jack to the world of the living.  Especially with having to turn to Cole of all people to help her!  I'm already on the edge of my seat, so January 22nd cannot get here soon enough.

Waiting on Wednesday: Ashes on the Waves

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's "Waiting On" Wednesday selection is:

 Ashes on the Waves
By Mary Lindsey
Publish Date: June 27th, 2013 by Philomel/Penguin

From Goodreads~
Liam MacGregor is cursed. Haunted by the wails of fantastical Bean Sidhes and labeled a demon by the villagers of Dòchas, Liam has accepted that things will never get better for him—until a wealthy heiress named Annabel Leighton arrives on the island and Liam's fate is changed forever.

With Anna, Liam finally finds the happiness he has always been denied; but, the violent, mythical Otherworlders, who inhabit the island and the sea around it, have other plans. They make a wager on the couple's love, testing its strength through a series of cruel obstacles. But the tragedies draw Liam and Anna even closer. Frustrated, the creatures put the couple through one last trial—and this time it's not only their love that's in danger of being destroyed.

Based on Edgar Allan Poe's chilling poem Annabel Lee, Mary Lindsey creates a frighteningly beautiful gothic novel that glorifies the power of true love.

Oh. My. God.  I cannot wait for Mary's newest book to release.  After enjoying Shattered Souls, her latest novel sounds so amazing.  I'm very eager to see what story she has composed for her readers based off Poe's "Annabel Lee."

Waiting On Wednesday: Send

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's "Waiting On" Wednesday selection is:

By Patty Blount
Publish date: August 2012 from Sourcebooks, Inc.

From Goodreads~
To keep his secrets, all he has to do is listen to the voice in his head and just walk away...

On his first day at his new high school, Dan stops a bully from beating up a kid half his size. He didn't want to get involved. All he wants out of his senior year is to fly under the radar. But Dan knows what it's like to be terrorized by a bully-he used to be one. Now the whole school thinks he's some kind of hero, except Julie Murphy, the prettiest girl on campus. She looks at him like she knows he has a secret. Like she knows his name isn't really Daniel.

I have to thank Teen Librarian's Toolbox for bringing this upcoming book to light.  To take a term from Kate at Ex Libris, I believe Send is a trigger book, one that readers should be on the lookout on the shelves come August.  After reading books like Dear Bully, Rival, and The List, I'm so ready for another book regarding one of the big issues in today's schools: bullying.  I'm eager to hear "Daniel's" story.

Being connected to Daemon Black sucks...

Daemon's determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarre connection. I've sworn him off even though he's running more hot than cold these days. But against all common sense, I'm falling for him. Hard.

Our relationship issues aren't our biggest problem...

The Department of Defense is here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we're linked, I'm a goner. So is he. And when a new boy shows up at school with a secret of his own, things get complicated fast. I need to choose between my own instincts and Daemon's.

But then everything changes...

I've seen someone who shouldn't be alive. Daemon's never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them--from me?

No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies.

Yes, I am totally hooked on this series after reading Obsidian, so it's any wonder why I'm eagerly awaiting August's arrival. Daemon, how you tease and torment not only Katy but me, too! JLA has one stellar alien series here.

Waiting on Wednesday: The Crown of Embers

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's "Waiting On" Wednesday selection is:

The Crown of Embers (Fire and Thorns #2)
By Rae Carson
Publish date: September 18th, 2012 by Greenwillow Books

From Goodreads~
In the sequel to the acclaimed The Girl of Fire and Thorns, a seventeen-year-old princess turned war queen faces sorcery, adventure, untold power, and romance as she fulfills her epic destiny.

Elisa is the hero of her country. She led her people to victory against a terrifying enemy, and now she is their queen. But she is only seventeen years old. Her rivals may have simply retreated, choosing stealth over battle. And no one within her court trusts her-except Hector, the commander of the royal guard, and her companions. As the country begins to crumble beneath her and her enemies emerge from the shadows, Elisa will take another journey. With a one-eyed warrior, a loyal friend, an enemy doctor, and the man she is falling in love with, Elisa crosses the ocean in search of the perilous, uncharted, and mythical source of the Godstone's power. That is not all she finds. A breathtaking, romantic, and dangerous second volume in the Fire and Thorns trilogy.

I thoroughly devoured and enjoyed The Girl of Fire and Thorns (as seen by my review), and it was just the fantasy novel I needed. Elisa is such a remarkable heroine and I'm eager to see where her journey will take her and her companions in the sequel. Readers who enjoy a unique fantasy world will love this trilogy.

Waiting on Wedneday: The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's "Waiting On" Wednesday selection is:

The Raven Boys
By Maggie Stiefvater
Publish Date September 18th by Scholastic Press

From Goodreads~
"There are only two reasons a non-seer would see a spirit on St. Mark's Eve," Neeve said. "Either you're his true love...or you killed him."

It is freezing in the churchyard, even before the dead arrive.

Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue herself never sees them--not until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks directly to her.

His name is Gansey, and Blue soon discovers that he is a rich student at Aglionby, the local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from Aglionby boys. Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble.

But Blue is drawn to Gansey, in a way she can't entirely explain. He has it all--family money, good looks, devoted friends--but he's looking for much more than that. He is on a quest that has encompassed three other Raven Boys: Adam, the scholarship student who resents all the privilege around him; Ronan, the fierce soul who ranges from anger to despair; and Noah, the taciturn watcher of the four, who notices many things but says very little.

For as long as she can remember, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love to die. She never thought this would be a problem. But now, as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she's not so sure anymore.

Let's face it, folks, Maggie's done it again, and this one sounds so very mysterious.  I'm eager to see how this fantasy series will turn out with the first novel, and it reminds me a bit of the film, Krabat.  September will be here before we know it, and I'll be getting my hands on a copy as soon as possible.

From Goodreads~
A Dying Land
The Shima Imperium is verging on the brink of environmental collapse; decimated by clockwork industrialization and the machine-worshippers of the Lotus Guild. The skies are red as blood, land choked with toxic pollution, wildlife ravaged by mass extinctions.

An Impossible Quest
The hunters of the imperial court are charged by their Shogun to capture a thunder tiger--a legendary beast, half-eagle, half-tiger. But any fool knows thunder tigers have been extinct for more than a century, and the price of failing the Shogun is death.

A Sixteen Year Old Girl
Yukiko is a child of the Fox clan, possessed of a hidden gift that would see her executed by the Lotus Guild. Accompanying her father on the Shogun's hunt, she finds herself stranded: a young woman alone in Shima's last wilderness, with only a furious, crippled thunder tiger for company. Even though she can hear his thoughts, even though she saved his life, all she knows for certain is he'd rather see her dead than help her.

But together, the pair will form an indomitable friendship, and rise to challenge the might of an empire.

***

After reading that *points to the summary* do I need to justify why I'm waiting on Stormdancer's release date?  Between Asian folklore and the heroine's quest, I really think it speaks for itself. ^_^

Waiting On Wednesday: Of Poseidon by Anna Banks

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's "Waiting On" Wednesday selection is:

By Anna Banks
Publish Date: May 22nd by Feiwel & Friends

From Goodreads~

Galen is the prince of Syrena, sent to land to find a girl he's heard can communicate with fish. Emma is on vacation at the beach. When she runs into Galen--literally, ouch!--both teens sense a connection. But it will take several encounters, including a deadly one with a shark, for Galen to be convinced of Emma's gifts. Now, if he can only convince Emma that she holds the key to saving his kingdom...

Told from both Emma and Galen's points of view, here is a fish-out-of-water story that sparkles with intrigue, humor, and waves of romance.

Totally in love with the cover! The summary's already promising a great story, and I'm so looking forward to reading it and to seeing Anna Banks when she visits Blue Willow Books in June for the Fierce Reads tour! :D

Waiting On Wednesday: The List by Siobhan Vivian

This week's "Waiting On" Wednesday selection is:

By Siobhan Vivian
Publish Date: April 1, 2012 by Push

From Goodreads~

It happens every year.  A list is posted, and one girl from each grade is chosen as the prettiest, and another is chosen as the ugliest.  Nobody knows who makes the list.  It almost doesn't matter.  The damage is done the minute it goes up.

This is the story of eight girls, freshman to senior, "pretty" and "ugly."  And it's also the story of how we see ourselves, and how other people see us, and the tangled connection between the two.

A fabulous local blogger wrote an amazing review about The List, and that really cinched my decision to read it.  Multiple POVs are definitely one feature I enjoy in both books and movies, so I'm hoping this one will deliver a well-rounded story as told by the eight girls.  And lucky for me and other eagerly waiting readers, it's being released this Sunday!
