Stacking the Shelves (10)

We are all book lovers and the need to share our enthusiasm is sometimes overwhelming. Stacking the Shelves, created and hosted at Tynga's Reviews, is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in stores or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts, and of course ebooks!

It's been awhile since I've done a Stacking the Shelves post (mostly because I've been buying more for others than myself), but this past week I found some lovely Middle Grade books I just HAD to borrow from my library plus a graphic novel I'd been anticipating the release of for quite awhile.

Post-Thanksgiving Holiday

First off, I hope all of you were able to have an excellent and filling Thanksgiving holiday.  And if you did go shopping or were working on Black Friday, I hope all went well without any snafus.  

Well, it's been one of those weekends where despite having 5 days off from work, I was still uber-busy because my folks were in town for the holiday and my beau was working on Black Friday.  It's been a fun time but also rather exhausting, and I'll be happy for the schedule to get back to normal.  

Here's what I've been reading over the holidays, and I hope to finish it this week:

Top Ten Books on My Fall TBR List

(In no particular order)

1. Stormdancer by Jay Kristoff - Japanese steam punk, what more do I need to know?

2. The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater - Maggie! <3 Aside from the author, it sounds like such a mysterious series. 

3. Sapphire Blue by Kerstin Gier - Ruby Red was such an amazing book, I have to know what happens next!

4. Seraphina by Rachel Hartman - I know I'm behind the rest, but I'm still eager to read a good dragon book.

5. Valkyrie Rising by Ingrid Paulson - Norse mythology, done deal since it's rare to see it featured in a book.

6. Onyx by Jennifer L. Armentrout - After the teaser in the back of Obsidian, I'm eager to read more about Daimon and Katy. 

7. Gravity by Melissa West - More aliens? Yes please!

8. Black City by Elizabeth Richards - I'm so curious about the Darklings, one of the first few "vampire" books that I'm eager to read.

9. Venom by Fiona Paul - Reading Marla's review inspired me to check this one out. :)

10. Soulless:The Mange Volume 2 by Gail Carriger and REM - Yes, there's a manga I'm eager to read, mostly because it's one of the few that features werewolves.

Top Ten Books That You Think Deserve Their Own TV Show

(In no particular order)

1. Soulless by Gail Carriger
I can only judge by the manga since I haven't read the series yet, but a steampunk paranormal anime series would be most welcome on television.

2. Paranormalcy by Kiersten White
Supernatural dramedy, 'nuff said.

3. The List by Siobhan Vivian
One of my most-watched yet not well-known series was Popular, and I think The List as a television show could be the next generation.

4. Intertwined by Gena Showalter
With all that is going on in this series, I'm surprised it's not a television series already.

5. Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia Wrede
This was a hilarious quartet, and I think we need more comedic fantasy television series.

6. Shadow Falls Series by C.C. Hunter
So many great television series took place at camp, so why not Shadow Falls Camp, too?

7. Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout
While I haven't read this book yet (though I'm DYING to), I think we need more sci-fi television series, and I think Daimon would make a perfect addition to the hot alien list.

8. A Brush of Darkness by Allison Pang
I see this one as a cross between The Dresden Files, Supernatural. and Buffy: The Vampire Slayer.

9. Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier
Time-traveling isn't just for doctors these days, and time-hopping sounds like a great means of travel.

I was only able to think of 9 this time, but I'm sure everyone has some great ideas for books that deserve their own television shows. ^_^

Top Ten All Time Favorite Characters in Books

1. Sam Roth from Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater

 It's sweet, adorable, and romantic Sam, how can readers who loved Shiver not love him?

2. Sean Kendrick from The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater

He's great with horses and knows what he wants to do, working hard for it.

3. Yelena and Valek from the Study Trilogy by Maria V. Snyder

Okay, so I'm cheating here a bit, but you can't really have one without the other. Just not possible with this dynamic duo.

4. Bigwig from Watership Down by Richard Adams

Yeah, I'm such a sucker for a tough guy who eventually shows his softer side (even if he's a rabbit, he's still Captain of the Watership owsla).

5. Aahz from The Myth series by Robert Asprin

He kind of goes hand in hand with Bigwig, tough exterior but you know he really worries about Skeeve and wants him to succeed.  (He's the green guy in the middle.)

6. Alanna from Song of the Lioness quartet by Tamora Pierce

She wants to be a knight in a world that wouldn't accept that all while saving the kingdom one book at a time. How cool a character is that???

7. Ramona from The Ramona series by Beverly Cleary

While she could definitely get into trouble, she usually made it out of her scrapes and troubles just fine in the end. Also, does anyone else remember the TV series they had for the books? 

8. Evie from Paranormalcy by Kiersten White

She's funny, tough, and she has a pink taser, making her one of the most memorable and adorable characters on my list.

9. Alexia Terabotti from Soulless (The Manga) by Gail Carriger & Rem

Okay, since I haven't read the book yet, I can only judge by the manga, but holy schnikies is Alexia not one of the coolest heroines ever! She knows how to kick some serious butt all while in traditional Victorian England attire, and that makes her even more awesome.

10. Carol, Stevie, and Lisa from The Saddle Club by Bonnie Bryant

I grew up with these three girls, and with their love of horses rivaling my own, I think it's only fair to have them on this list (especially with as many books in the series I had).

This one was such a bear (pardon the pun) trying to find in any bookstores, so I snatched it up once I spotted it!

Soulless Volume 1 by Gail Carriger and illustrated by Rem

I'm actually more inspired to read the series now that I've read the first volume.

A Sliver of Shadow by Allison Pang
Yep, I just had to get this one since I enjoyed A Brush of Darkness so much.
