Stacking the Shelves (12): 2008 Movie Tie-In

We are all book lovers and the need to share our enthusiasm is sometimes overwhelming. Stacking the Shelves, created and hosted at Tynga's Reviews, is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in stores or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts, and of course ebooks!

Bought:

Krabat by Otfried Preußler, Anthea Bell (translator)
Everyone, I'm so excited to finally get a copy of the book!  The movie was fascinating, so I'm hoping the book will be very promising, too.  Take a look at the trailer below to see what I mean. ^_^

Festive Five: Christmas Movies

I love the Christmas season so much!  You can't help but smile when you see the lights on people's houses, the various wreaths and lit trees decorating the shopping areas, and of course the many MANY holiday movies and specials.  There are a few that I consider essential to the season, some of which are guilty pleasures of mine.  So here are my Festive Five movies of Christmas that I watch around this time of year.

1) A Smoky Mountain Christmas - This might just be a southern thing, but I simply love Dolly's Christmas movie.  The scenery, the story, the music, I have to find a copy of this movie to own!  For now, I contend with viewing it on either Hallmark or Lifetime Network.

2) Beauty and the Beast: An Enchanted Christmas - It's Belle and the Beast at Christmas!  How can you not enjoy that fact?  This has become a tradition for me ever since my beau bought a copy one Christmas.

3) A Christmas Story - You can't have Christmas without this movie, and this year, I'll have to watch it with my beau since he's never seen it!

4) The Grinch - Ever since this remake came about, I've heard so many complaints about it.  And while I can agree with some of them... I can't help but watch it at Christmas.  It's like a train-wreck, and I'm a "looky-loo" that has to see what's going on.  Plus, I do enjoy Faith Hill's rendition of "Where Are You, Christmas?"

5) Home Alone 2 - Yeah, I know it's a sequel, but I just love New York City during the Christmas season.  Granted, I've never been there, but it has more of a Christmas feel than the first one.

Honorable Mention:

Memoirs of a Geisha - I know this one has nothing to do with Christmas, BUT I saw it in the theater on Christmas Day.  It's just become part of the tradition to watch at Christmastime.  Plus, gorgeous setting and beautiful cinematography equals a win for me.

Top Ten Tuesday - Top Ten Books I'd Like to See Made into Movies

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, a state that you don't have to worry about being deprived of more books as long as you're near a library. ;) This week's Top Ten is:

Top Ten Movies I'd Like to See Made into Movies

Hoo boy, this one's a hard one, but I'll do my best to narrow it down to just 10.

1. Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder - I would love to actually see Yelena become the Commander's food taster and what tasks Valek has laid out for her in order to do so properly.  And I'll admit, I want to see just who they would pick to play the remarkable and skilled Valek.

2. Keturah and Lord Death by Martine Leavitt - For some reason, this story seems like it would be a great one for the silver screen.  There's just something about Death being involved in a fairytale that makes it more interesting.

3. The Princess's Dragon by Susan Trombley - There can never be enough films with dragons, and with my love of this book, I can't help but want to see it as a movie.  Most of all, I would want to see Sondra's transformation and then her first meeting with Tolmac. :)

4. Paranormalcy by Kiersten White - Although I haven't read this yet, I get the feeling that it would be a nice mix of drama and comedy all wrapped up in, say it with me now, the paranormal.

5. Acorna by Anne McCaffrey and Margaret Ball - I see this as a great blend of both fantasy and science fiction, and I'd be interested to see how Acorna herself would appear.

6. The Nymph King by Gena Showalter - 1) I love the ocean and I figure what better setting for this novel if turned into a movie, 2) the fighting scenes not only between the nymph warriors but also the dragon warriors that arrive too, and 3) I'd just love to see Valerian and Joachim in the flesh.  Besides, can you imagine if this cover was used as the basis for the movie poster?

7. Unicorn Trilogy by Tanith Lee - I cannot choose just one as they all work together so well just as a trilogy should.  I want to see Tanaquil's character development and also what sort of landscapes and settings would be used for a futuristic fantasy world that Lee has created.

8. Wolf at the Door by Barbara Corcoran - This was one of my favorite books back in grade school, and I think it really does help make people more aware of the wolf conservation situation.  It would be amazing seeing this book in film form just for the setting and the wolves.

9. Chocolate Fever by Robert Kimmel Smith - I just think this would make a hilarious movie. How weird is it to have a disease revolved around chocolate?

10. Escape from Exile by Robert Levy - Another favorite from my childhood, I would want to see this just for the various animals of the realm from Hira, the behemoth horse, to Me, the acid-spitting snake, to the samkits, giant Siamese-ish cats.
